Lowering costs to increase impact

March 28, 2018

Vanguard Charitable is committed to offering a low-cost, high-value donor-advised fund, and we hold firm to our belief that low fees allow you to maximize your charitable giving. To ensure we are enabling you to create the most impact with your charitable dollars, we are pleased to announce changes to several of our investment options.

As of April 2, 2018, underlying funds in several of Vanguard Charitable’s investment options will undergo a share class conversion resulting in lower fees and potentially greater assets available for charitable giving.

Six mutual funds underlying our Standard investment options have converted from Admiral to Institutional share class; five mutual funds underlying our Select investment options converted from Institutional to Institutional Plus share class. The lower expense ratios of the underlying funds are passed through directly to our Vanguard Charitable donors. Here are the investment options that have benefited from the lower costs:

Vanguard Charitable is an independent entity, separate from Vanguard. The partnership with Vanguard and the availability of Vanguard funds in most of Vanguard Charitable’s investment pools means that donors have access to low-cost, high-quality mutual funds managed by the world’s largest mutual fund company—which can ultimately help them grant more to charity.

We pride ourselves on being a low-cost leader in philanthropic giving. Donor-advised accounts at Vanguard Charitable enjoy an all-in fee structure that is a combination of low, and recently reduced, investment and administrative fees.

*Vanguard Charitable designates philanthropic accounts as either Standard or Select. Based on account balance and activity, account status dictates an account’s administrative and investment fee schedule. Accounts with an ongoing balance of more than $1 million may qualify for Select account status, which offers access to the same investment options as Standard accounts but has lower associated fees. Additional contributions into a Select account are automatically invested at Select pricing. For the current fee schedule for each account type, please refer to the Fees and expenses section of Vanguard Charitable’s Policies and Guidelines.
