Ways to respond to the crisis in Afghanistan

Afghan civilians are in dire need of support for emergency evacuation, relocation, and resettlement operations. Those especially vulnerable include women’s and human rights activists and defenders, educators, media workers, and ethnic minorities.
In partnership with Charity Navigator, we are providing a list of highly rated organizations that are responding to the situation in Afghanistan. Many of the organizations listed below are directing extra resources to the well-being of Afghan women and girls. This list is not exhaustive. We have expedited the granting process so your grant can be put to use as quickly as possible. More information is located below the table.

CAI is working with local partners to determine the most immediate needs for displaced individuals, especially children, many of whom may lack food, water, shelter, and healthcare. The organization places an emphasis on uplifting women and girls.

CWS has settled more than 7,000 Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) recipients in the U.S. since 2009. The organization is working to continue to offer housing, employment, and social services for current and future Afghan SIV recipients.

The Institute of International Education is working to provide important assistance to Afghan scholars and college students who may be under threat during this crisis.
Child Foundation already sponsors approximately 800 children in the Balkh province of Afghanistan. Grants to the organization will provide emergency assistance to the families of these children to help them meet their basic needs for survival.

CARE is offering food, water, shelter, and protection to individuals displaced by the current crisis.

To support these charities or others:
Log in to your online account by clicking the Login button in the upper right corner. Select Grant in the navigation menu at the top of the page and select Recommend a grant in the dropdown.
If the organization is not in your saved charities’ list, type the charity name, region, or interest area in the search bar under Find a charity. Click the magnifying glass to begin the search and then scroll down to see your search results. Charities will appear in a list below. Once found, save the charity by clicking on the star and then click select to begin the granting process.
You will be asked to select a grant purpose in the first step of the process. To recommend funds to Afghanistan relief efforts, select Other, and then click Add Additional Comments. There you can specify "Afghanistan relief efforts" or any other details of the grant you wish to recommend in the space provided.
If you do not have access to your online account, you can register by selecting the Login button in the upper right-hand corner. Follow the prompts to register for online access.
