Vanguard Charitable appoints new board member

Aug 06, 2025

Malvern, Pa. – Vanguard Charitable, a leading sponsor of donor-advised funds (DAFs), announced today the appointment of its newest board member, Heather Templeton Dill. Dill is the former president and CEO of the John Templeton Foundation, a $3.4 billion globally-focused and forward-looking philanthropic institution. Currently, she serves as interim director of the Templeton Prize, one of the world’s largest annual individual awards, honoring luminaries who bridge science, philosophy, and spiritual inquiry in profound and enduring ways.

As a tenured, skillful, and mission-driven executive, Dill has been recognized by several boards and organizations for her ability to drive clarity of goals while fostering healthy, high-trust cultures.

“I’m pleased to join the Vanguard Charitable board and an organization that is driving impact at a tremendous scale,” said Dill. “Donor-advised funds are at the forefront of grantmaking, and I look forward to working with my peers on the board and the broader team to promote and advance charitable giving.”

Dill led the John Templeton Foundation for nearly a decade, through June 2025. Under her leadership, the Foundation’s assets grew nearly 25% and annual giving rose to $135 million. She spearheaded the development of a five-year strategy that clarified key funding priorities and launched major initiatives in emerging fields—all while preserving the philanthropic vision of the Foundation’s Founder, Sir John Templeton.

As a new trustee, Dill succeeds Mike Holland, an inaugural board member of Vanguard Charitable, who served 28 years in the role. Holland’s counsel and expertise helped Vanguard Charitable grow to $22 billion in total granting and more than 30,000 donors nationally.

“We’re excited to welcome Heather to Vanguard Charitable’s Board of Trustees,” says Rebecca Moffett, president of Vanguard Charitable. “Heather brings passion and deep expertise in the role of a grant maker, and we look forward to how she will guide us and shape the future of Vanguard Charitable. I also extend my sincere gratitude to Mike Holland, someone who has been instrumental in our expansion and organizational integrity for almost three decades.”

Dill is currently a member of the board of First Trust Bank, the Templeton World Charity Foundation, and the Templeton Religion Trust steering committee. She also serves on the vestry at the Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli, PA.
