A note from our president
To our partners in philanthropy,
Each year, it can seem like the world’s challenges are more complex and need just continues to deepen. Yet at Vanguard Charitable, our donors respond, again and again, by increasing their commitment to charity. By giving with us, they are helping to address the complex problems of today while putting plans in place to meet the needs of tomorrow.
This past year alone, Vanguard Charitable donors granted more than $3.1 billion to charity—up nearly 20% from 2023 and 130% from five years ago. The dollars are astounding, but I draw my greatest inspiration from the myriad causes and charities supported with each grant. Every day, our donors are discovering new philanthropic passions while leaning in closer to the causes that matter most to them, and the result is more nonprofit organizations receiving funding—overall and per donor relationship. This scale and breadth of our donors’ support, enabled by the donor-advised fund, means more nonprofits have what they need to solve the ever-increasing and complex challenges in our communities.
The value of a donor-advised fund was on full display in 2024, showcasing what’s possible and achievable when philanthropy is paired with this strategic giving vehicle. Not only was more money than ever committed to charitable causes, but our donors are also effectively using our giving solutions—like electronic delivery, recoverable grants, and recurring grants—to get money to important causes quickly, sustainably, and reliably.
In 2025, I anticipate seeing more of the powerful results of giving with a donor-advised fund—more dollars granted, more causes supported, more donors leveraging tools to creatively help their communities—because our donors are committed to meaningful impact with Vanguard Charitable.
Thank you for continuing to lean into your heartfelt efforts to make a difference.
A note from our board chair
Fellow donors,
In many ways, it is hard to believe that it was 28 years ago that we launched Vanguard Charitable with a vision to bring strategic philanthropy and impactful, charitable investing to life. All these years later, your impact—and that of our team—is stronger than ever.
Together as donors, we have granted more than $21 billion to charity, including $3.1 billion in 2024 alone. Your continued investments in a broad range of charitable missions, and in turn, the Vanguard Charitable mission to expand and maximize philanthropy all over the world, is inspirational. Your selfless generosity empowers these organizations to accomplish their vital work.
I also want to thank our Vanguard Charitable team—the individuals and groups working behind the scenes to help our donors accomplish their goals. Our team does an excellent job for us, striving throughout the year to make giving convenient, simple, and streamlined for donors. Without this team, our collective efforts in moving philanthropy forward would not be possible.
While 2024 was a tremendous year of impact for our donors, I also want to look ahead to the future. Our team is always committed to improving all that we do, and we will continue responding to the needs of donors, nonprofits, and our communities. Philanthropy is not always simple, but it is always worth doing—that is what spurs us to innovate.
Donors are at the forefront of everything we do at Vanguard Charitable. As we look back and forward, we reaffirm our dedication to being your trusted partner in philanthropy so you can focus on your charitable goals—and we are here to support you every step of the way.
We are grateful for the trust you place in Vanguard Charitable and our team. We look forward to continue helping you accomplish all your philanthropic goals.

Elevating the standard for charitable giving
In the last five years, Vanguard Charitable donors have exceeded their ambitious charitable giving goals, and their generosity continues to redefine the standard for charitable giving. Today, donors are finding it simpler and more streamlined to grant with a Vanguard Charitable donor-advised fund (DAF) than ever before. As catalysts for growth, Vanguard Charitable donors’ relentless support is aiding the nonprofit sector in what seems to be a return to pre-pandemic granting levels.
Our donors’ unyielding commitment to follow their philanthropic north star, coupled with industry-low charitable investing fees, resulted in more grants to more charities than ever before at Vanguard Charitable. We’re excited to see our donors’ continued passion transcend far beyond monetary donations and lead to tangible, real-world community impact.

Expanding the philanthropic horizon one grant at a time
Charities play a crucial role in society as they provide critical support at all levels. This was especially evident during the pandemic.
Compared to pre-pandemic levels, Vanguard Charitable donors have diversified their charitable giving portfolio by supporting a wider array of organizations. Having a more robust donor base enables charities to increase their stability and resiliency, so they’re less reliant on a small number of major contributors.
This shift in granting allows donors to amplify their impact by addressing a broader spectrum of charities and communities in need—all while still proactively granting to their favorite organizations.
