Federal law does not permit donor-advised funds to accept Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs). If you must take your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and want to use the funds for charitable giving, you have three options. You can donate the RMD to a qualified public charity in the form of a QCD. You can donate the RMD to Vanguard Charitable's Sustainable Disaster-Relief Fund in the form of a QCD. Or you can accept the RMD, pay income taxes on the distribution, and contribute the remainder to a Vanguard Charitable donor-advised fund. As you consider options with your RMD, please consult your tax advisor for more information about your specific circumstances.
